On 18 January 2003 the devastating Canberra firestorm hit Mount Stromlo destroying five telescopes, workshops, seven homes and the heritage listed administration building

The Following photos were taken in 2008 5 years after the 2003 fire storm that burnt 500+ houses and most of the Observatory's telescopes some over 100 years old.
